Find Out Essential Guide On UK Work Permit – Immigrate To The UK
How to get a work permit
Before you can apply, you must meet the following work permit requirements:
Have received a confirmed offer of employment from an authorized UK employer who will act as a sponsor; and
Have a sponsorship certificate issued by your sponsoring employer; and
Pass the point assessment, details of which can be found on the category-specific work permit pages below.
We advise on three main categories of work permits in the UK. These are:
General level 2 – Skilled worker
Level 2 intra-company transfer
Level 2 athlete visa
The work permit application process is led by the employer who is responsible for issuing
a sponsorship certificate to you (the applicant).
Employers who wish to learn more about Level 2 work permits are invited to read our section on Level 2 Visa Information for Employers.
UK work permits (general category) and permanent residence
As a UK work permit holder, you are eligible for permanent residence if you have lived and worked in the UK for at least five years. Once you have met the five-year requirement, you may be eligible for indefinite leave to stay in the UK, which can then be followed by British Naturalization as a British citizen.
Intra-company transfers and permanent residence
As a holder of a British work permit in the ICT category, you can benefit from permanent residence if you have lived and worked in the United Kingdom for at least five years and obtained a level 2 intra-company transfer visa under the rules in effect before April 6. 2010 or had prior leave as an eligible work permit holder. Once you have met the five-year requirement, you may be eligible for indefinite leave to stay in the UK (ILR), which can then be followed by British Naturalization as a British citizen.
If you want to change employers, you must obtain a new sponsorship certificate from an authorized employer. You will also need to reevaluate from the current points test and the position will meet the advertising requirements of the resident labor market test (if applicable).
